Discipleship Groups

Discipleship Groups are one of the primary tools at Oso Creek for growing in our relationship with Christ.  They reflect the fact that Christianity is not a lone ranger sport, and ‘as iron sharpens iron’ one person sharpens another.  In community we dig deeper into God’s Truth and deal honestly with those areas in our life where we need to grown.

What is a Discipleship Group?

A Discipleship Group (DG) is a simple way to release the power of God in people’s lives so that we can become more and more transformed into God’s image.   It is a grassroots tool that empowers every follower of Christ to multiply their lives by reproducing spiritual disciples who can in turn reproduce others.

Here is a simple overview of what a DG is:

* DG’s meet once a week for approximately an hour
* DG’s are groups of two or three (the addition of a fourth person is the beginning of a second group and multiplication is imminent).
* The groups are not co-ed but gender specific
* There is no required curriculum, workbook or training involved.
* There is no leader needed in the group – only an initiator.
* Only three tasks are to be accomplished in a DG:
1) Sin is confessed in mutual accountability
2) Scripture is read repetitively in context and discussed in community.
3) Souls are prayed for specifically and continuously.

Who should be in DG’s:

There are only two suggested qualifications for starting or joining a DG:
1) A desperate need for Jesus Christ (Luke 5:29-32)
2) Faithfulness in the process itself (2 Timothy 2:2)
